Because of this, you’ll want to protect him at all costs and not risk attacking unless you know it’s safe. While he is not the linchpin of your deck, Anowon can drastically improve your chances of winning if he can stay on the board. Additionally, Anowon allows all our rogues to mill our opponent’s decks, depleting their resources and opening up new opportunities for our deck. For just four mana you not only get an anthem effect for the majority of your creatures but a draw engine that fuels your deck.

Anowon, the Ruin Thief PrimerĪnowon is a supremely strong commander is properly built around. It’s always critical to adjust a deck based on your own playstyle and meta. Finally, this is simply a template for you to get started on your own Anowon deck. Additionally, we aren’t going to be constrained by price, however, I will be avoiding obviously pricey cards like dual lands, Mana Crypt, etc. It’s still a competitive list, but one that wouldn’t be classified in the cEDH (Competitive EDH) format. When designing this deck, I decided to make it powerful enough to win games, without being overwhelmingly oppressive or fast. There are a few different directions you could take an Anowon deck, but by far the most potent is Rogue Tribal. This makes him quite potent, as he simultaneously mills your opponent and draws you cards. Available in the new Zendikar Rising Sneak Attack deck, Anowon is all about attacking your opponent and drawing cards. Boasting a few popular commanders, Anowon, the Ruin Thief has swooped in to try and claim the top spot for Rogue Tribal. Their stealthy, ninja-esque design allows us to slip past our opponent’s board to deal damage directly to them. If you ever want a deck tech on your deck to be made into a video feel free to leave a like, comment, Email, and subscribe to MTGGoldfish and MTGGoldfishCommander on Youtube! Along with that, I'll be doing deck techs on all the sweet themed decks I've built online! Oh and one last recommendation is Night Dealings! The card is a fun forgotten gem from the Kamigawa block! When we're loaded with a decent amount of evasion, we can tutor up all the things! Best part is the card costs less than $5!Īnywho, thanks for watching! I'll be doing more deck techs in the future of other sweet decks I see or build. The cipher cards are definitely lower in power but a lot of fun if you feel your rogue deck needs to be power down. Example, some cards I think could be pretty fun to keep nearby are cards with Cipher and more Prowl cards! Unfortunately, it is a 6 mana 2/2 but it does make all your blue creatures unblockable and that is just as good!Īs a fan of constantly changing my EDH decks, I like keeping a certain set of cards on rotation. Sun Quan, Lord of Wu is a bit pricey if you're not able to grab the FTV printing and currently sits around $30+ so if you want a replacement for this, I'd recommend Deepchannel Mentor. If you're looking for a replacement to the Orb, you can always just play more things that help mill. Unfortunately, there aren't many budget replacements for this exact ability.

Luckily, Mesmeric Orb got reprinted and is now under $10 so it's not at the price it once was. unless you get paired against the one player who came prepared with a Horsemanship deck. Some cards that I didn't have in paper at the time of filming that I wanted to add to the deck were Mesmeric Orb and Sun Quan, Lord of Wu as I think those would definitely help with milling and getting more evasion.
